On April 12, 1954, Bill Haley and the Comets recorded “Rock Around The Clock” thus marking the dividing line between the mellow sounds of the post war period and the early appearance of Rhythm & Blues crossed with country Rock Music. As a result, the hit songs of the 1954 are wildly different as if the public couldn’t quite make up their mind as the war generation gave way to their up and coming boomer children.

Rock Around The Clock

Oh My Papa

Sh-Boom

Darling, Je Vous Aime Beaucoup

And as a bonus, the confusion in song:

My mom often looks back with fondness on those early years of the rock and roll transition. My grandmother’s musical tastes were so fluid, so their house was always alive with so many different styles…big bands, jazz, crooners, and even classical. Early rock and roll meshed right in.
