Golden Songs – Edition IV

5 On FRiday

The 5 On Friday meme was started more than three years ago by our buddy Travis of Trav’s Thoughts. To join in, visit his site, sign in and share your five musical choices for the week.

For the next three weeks I’ll feature the songs that really raked in the Gold winning both a Golden Globe and Oscar with special asterisks *** for those that managed to cart off a Grammy as well.

Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do) from Arthur by Peter Allen, Burt Bacharach, Christopher Cross, and Carole Bayer Sager

Up Where We Belong from An Officer and A Gentleman by Jack Nitzsche, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and Will Jennings

Say You Say Me from White Nights by Lionel Richie

Take My Breath Away from Top Gun by Georgio Moroder and Tom Whitlock

Under The Sea from The Little Mermaid by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken ***

  2. Laughed my way through the Arthur video clips, and ooo-ed and ah-ed over Baryshnikov in the White Nights clips. Both are definitely my faves this week. Glad you count this Charles Aznavour-loving buddy a friend for life!

Watching Baryshnikov dance in White Nights is mesmerizing. The film wasn’t great, but it’s one I’ll pause on when I come across it channel surfing, just to see Misha’s brilliance.

And of course Arthur is one of my favorites. I’m laughing during the opening credits before the film even gets started.
