5 On Friday – Crowned Head Edition

September 14 is a sad anniversary as it is the date the world lost her Serene Highness, Princess Grace of Monaco, better known to the world as Grace Kelly. For our weekly musical foray, this brings me to one of my favorite musicals: High Society. The source material was a great play and movie: Philadelphia Story and the music by the inimitable Cole Porter. In an era of great musicals, this one stands out with its stars Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Celeste Holm, Louie Armstrong, and of course, the luminous Grace. It also almost caused a bit of an international incident and was banned for a bit in Monaco as the release came shortly before the marriage to Prince Rainier and a movie where the future Princess was intoxicated and cavorting wasn’t quite the proper image.

  • And a bonus because she certainly was sensational

    1. Travis says:

Grace Kelly, one of the most beautiful and refined ladies in Hollywood. I love the music selections this week.

    2. Definitely laughed at the line “elegant junk” — LOL! My favorite this week is the drunk one…I mean, What a Swell Party This Is. And thanks for the Grace Kelly collage at the bottom of the post. Such a stunner.
